Update 5 of 6: Vote Tomorrow!!

ABC shows who they are, and a rare chance today to interact with a Palestinian who founded a West Bank Waldorf School!

1. TOMORROW IS THE DAY!

Tomorrow is the day long waited for. Your vote could make all the difference. Please check the scorecard on our instagram to see who the candidates supporting human rights are.

  • Take two pieces of ID. Here's what to expect when you vote.
  • Voting centres are open from 8 am to 8 pm.
  • Tell people you meet that you will Vote Palestine, and that they can, too, by checking the candidate scorecard.

2. ABC stole an artist's labour of love

On October 10th, a Vancouver-based artist launched a walking art project: 12 wooden panels that asked Vancouverites about the first demand of the Vote Palestine campaign, "Do you know if your candidates condemn genocide?" The panels were carried on foot by shifts of dozens of volunteers for hours, travelling Vancouver's streets for 24 hours to evoke the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and honour them. It was well received by residents until it got to the ABC Vancouver head office on October 11th.

ABC staffers harassed and pushed over the art and stole two of the 12 panels. It was only when police intervened that the art was returned.

Here's the full story we posted on our AFC Instagram:

The public identified one of the two people who stole the panels as Ken Sim's former Chief of Staff and current campaign manager, Trevor Ford:

And we made a comic reel about it too:

Is this the kind of behaviour we want at Vancouver City Hall? Believe people when they show you who they are! Vote for change tomorrow!

3. Demands' Spotlights

The Vote Palestine Vancouver platform consists of four demands. Please check each of them unpacked in the following posts that are on our instagram:

  • Demand 1: Condemn the Genocide
  • Demand 2: Sign the Apartheid-Free Communities Pledge
  • Demand 3: Cut ties with Israeli institutions
  • Demand 4: Recognize the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association framework of Anti-Palestinian Racism

4. October 16: Oscar-contending documentary screening twice at VIFF

Today at 2 pm and 6:30 pm, Vote Palestine Vancouver will be facilitating a discussion with Manar, a co-founder of "House of Hope," a Waldorf school in Al-Eizariya, a town in the occupied West Bank near Jerusalem, after a screening of an Oscar-contending documentary about the school. This is a rare opportunity to watch a thoughtful film about running a school under occupation and ask questions of one of the people running that school.

The screenings with Manar are on October 16th at VIFF. You don't want to miss this powerful film! Book your tickets. The movie is showing at VIFF until October 24.

Thank you for all you do. We are in this together.
